Fly Fishing School 2010

May 21, 22, & 23, 2010

Do Trout still elude you? Entering the fly fishing realm can sometimes throw a beginner into a spiral destined for disaster where they finally call it quits.

Let us help you cut the learning curve. Come join us for a weekend Fly fishing School on the scenic Casselman River in Western Maryland.

Why the Casselman River?

The Casselman has easy wading and a varied shoreline made for open casting with medium to heavy canopied foliage creating moderate to difficult casting. The water make up has deep runs, small to medium size riffles, flats, and deep pools. The diverse situations creates a great place to have a school able to introduce the student to the many types of situations they will encounter and giving us the ability to address the problems they may have as we progress through the school.

Under cut banks and overhanging foliage and the infamous trees that we manage to snag! Join us and learn a few tips from a guides perspective on how to overcome these obstacles.

Lodging & Meals

The school is held at the Meshach Browning cabins on the River.

Two of my patterns matching the Golden Stone.

There are many ways to tie a pattern with varying levels of difficulty. These examples of the golden stone shown are only two of the various adaptations for this pattern. Saturday evening we will first identify the bugs that were collected during the day. We will then tie a few flies to allow the students to understand how to incorporate different materials to get a close match to the bugs found in any water shed they encounter. As far as advancing in their skill level of tying, this will come in time. Practice makes perfect!

After the Spring Steelhead Season, I will be taking orders for Steelhead Rods I use guiding on the Alley in time for the 2009 Fall Season.

I will have a page dedicated just for the rods.

All will be custom built by me personally with the same meticulous detailed craftsmanship I follow when tying my flies.

Rod details: 10' 7 wt 2 pc. moderate flex rod. Matt charcoal gray IM7 blank with red & black thread raps accented with silver, stainless steel guides, folding hook keep, full welled grip and a 2" fighting butt.

A 50% Deposit will be needed for Customizing the rod with your name which is included in the price.

These have just the right flex for the explosive runs and enough back bone to have plenty of control over the fish.
